Jacking In: A Series on Cyberspace Literacy presents
MASTERING YOUR MESSAGING: AN E-MAIL TUTORIAL
The Matrix -- the interconnected computer networks that span the globe
-- is held together by electronic mail. E-mail has changed the way
people work and play by dashing geographical, chronological, financial,
bureaucratic, and social boundaries. It's also introduced new privacy
and ownership concerns.
In this, the least splashy Jacking In to date, Eric Theise will give a
tutorial on mail programs commonly found on networked unix computers.
These mailers -- mail, elm, pine, and mush -- in combination with
various editors -- ed, vi, pico, and joe -- offer an underutilized
assortment of features for mailing text and binary files, and quoting,
copying, and managing mail.
We'll also talk about finding and subscribing to e-mail lists on an
enormous variety of subjects, and about getting mail from one system to
another.
Everyone should bring questions, and DOS users can bring a 3.5"
diskette to receive a copy of elvis, a vi lookalike, a vi tutorial, and
a handful of other resources.
